The Otogawa River is a tributary of the Kumano River. As the name suggests, when the riverbed is dug, hot springs gush out from the riverbed, making this a rare natural open-air bath in Japan. There is also an open-air bath on the bank of the Otogawa River, which flows right in front of the hotel, that uses the hotel’s own hot spring water, and is available exclusively to guests staying at the hotel. Relax and enjoy the great outdoors of Kumano while listening to the murmuring of the river. On the 5th, Kawayu Onsen in Motomiya-cho, Tanabe City, Wakayama Prefecture, opened a large open-air bath called “Sennin-buro” on the bank of the Otogawa River, which is only open in winter, at the riverbed. The hot spring water, which is over 70 degrees and constantly gushes out from the riverbed, mixes with the Otogawa River, a tributary of the Kumano River, to create a hot spring that is just right. In the summer, you can warm up your cold body by playing in the river, and in the winter, you can use the vast open-air bath “Sennin-buro”.
